Beautiful Location But ....

In general: This was a trip down memory lane as we lived in Penang 30 years ago . It didn't live up to our expectations in some areas Location and surroundings: Location is great and grounds and pools are beautiful , really beautiful! Service: Service was friendly but sloppy and inefficient. Orders were often incorrect and staff were often missing when required. Dining: We only ate in the Spice market and it was a great disappointment as the food stalls outside the hotel were serving much better food for a fraction of the cost. My satay was dry , hard and cold and almost impossible to remove from the scewers ! We entertained many of our local friends and it was frankly embarrassing. Sports and leisure: We only used the pool as Inwas in a wheelchair recovering from an accident ! Room: Our room was ground floor garden and was comfortable but a little tired and I kept finding long black hairs on things ( both our hair is white !!) The towels were beautifully white and quite fluffy and changed only when I requested it! The bed was a bit hard but I am coping with an injury to my thigh so extra sensitive. The sheets were spotless and pillows of two types giving a good choice. Doors to garden had a locking alarm system so we couldn't access from the garden unless we left our room unlocked. Useful tips: Eat outside at the food stalls for really authentic dishes but enjoy the pool ( an adult only pool was great for me to do my exercises without the fear of being knocked into ) Great buggy service between hotel and sister Golden Sands
